Exploring the Efficacy of the Role-Play Method in Enhancing Indonesian Speaking Skills: A Comprehensive Study in Language Education
Keywords:
Role-Play Method, Indonesian Speaking Skills, Language EducationAbstract
This research delves into the impact of the role-play method on the development of Indonesian speaking skills, investigating its efficacy within the context of language education. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving 120 undergraduate students enrolled in Indonesian language courses. The study unfolds over one academic semester, with participants divided into an experimental group exposed to bi-weekly role-play sessions and a control group receiving traditional language teaching methods. Pre- and post-intervention assessments, incorporating oral proficiency interviews, role-playing tasks, and self-assessment surveys, were conducted to measure linguistic proficiency, cultural awareness, and overall communicative competence. The findings reveal a significant enhancement in speaking proficiency among participants engaged in the role-play method. Learners demonstrated not only improved linguistic accuracy but also heightened cultural sensitivity and increased confidence in real-life communicative situations. The study aligns with communicative language teaching principles, showcasing the role-play method as a dynamic and experiential approach that bridges theoretical knowledge with practical language use. Acknowledging limitations in sample homogeneity, short-term focus, and specific institutional context, the study calls for future research to diversify participant demographics, adopt longitudinal perspectives, and explore the method's applicability across varied linguistic landscapes.
