Abstract

This research investigates the transformative potential of integrating augmented reality (AR) into middle school science education to enhance students' learning motivation. The study aims to explore how AR technology influences students' motivation levels and engagement in science learning, addressing existing challenges in comprehending abstract scientific concepts and sustaining interest in science subjects. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the study includes an experimental group exposed to AR-enhanced science lessons and a control group receiving traditional instruction. A mixed-methods approach incorporates quantitative analyses of pre-test/post-test data, capturing changes in motivation scores, and qualitative insights from interviews and observations, delving into the experiential impact of AR on students. Quantitative analysis reveals statistically significant increases in motivation scores within the experimental group compared to the control, indicating the tangible impact of AR on enhancing students' interest, enjoyment, and perceived competence in science. Qualitative data provides nuanced insights, portraying a transformative shift in students' attitudes and engagement, highlighting AR's role in fostering curiosity and intrinsic motivation. The implications of these findings resonate deeply within educational practices, advocating for the strategic integration of AR technology. AR offers a dynamic platform to bridge the gap between abstract scientific concepts and students' comprehension, fostering deeper engagement and sustained interest.
