This Journal of Machine Learning and Computer Vision focuses on research related to manipulation, analysis, and interpretation of data in the form of images or images. The methods used are very diverse, ranging from methods that process detailed information stored at the pixel level to methods that geometrically divide images in several regions to form thematic / semantic patterns to represent.

The issues and topics being developed now relate to Content Based Image Retrieval, where image or image searches from image databases are not based on metadata or textual information, but instead utilize information implicitly and explicitly contained in the image itself.

The context and domain of problems that have been studied include the remote sensing and biomedical applications, as well as specific aspects such as pattern recognition of batik images. In remote sensing applications, processing results are used as input for a Geographical Information System.
